Great! But it's not for the uninitiated.

I'm having a blast using it, but while I did get it pre-built it does not come with anything resembling an instruction book, and you need to make heavy use of the MiSTer Discord and anything else you can glean from the Internet in order to get it all up and running.

Great little kit

The misteraddons kit is a solid deal. It comes with a well thought out case, all the required components to get you started. The only thing I wish could be better is the size of the included SD card and some better color options. Shout out to pixel cherry ninja for prompting the company!

First time buyer and jumping head first into MiSTer

I’ve been following the FPGA news and advancements from a distance for at least a year. Constantly fighting off the urge the pull the trigger and take the plunge into the MiSTer world. I’ve got tons of retro consoles, PIs and PCs for software emulation, so couldn’t see the need for yet another device.

I saw a one in stock at MiSTer Addons and jumped in. I can’t be more impressed with the MiSTer. I bought the kit with analog VGA, but I’ve only used HDMI thus far, and it looks amazing with all the video configuration possible to add scan lines and other effects to make it look like a CRT. I do have a RetroTink 4k, and will look to buy the right cables to (I think i need an hdmi to vga adapter, then vga to vga to retrotink for the best video signal output from MiSTer based on a youtube i watched, but i need to do more research). At the end of the day though, I am super happy with the output from the MiSTer via hdmi to an lcd (old 80” 1080p lcd) as it stands. I’ve installed (update-all) and tried the arcade cores, tried many of the console cores, and so have been having so much fun with the computer cores. Everything works so well and I’m blown away by the open source community behind this.

If you love retro gaming, and you dont have a MiSTer, you have to ask yourself “Why wouldn’t I have a MiSTer???”

If you do go for it, MiSTer Addons is highly recommended as it has an actual Terasic DE10-nano, high quality/tested/working out the box, and shipping was lighting fast 2 business days.

Next I will be buying a Reflex and SNAX along with all the cables to use my real console controllers.

Welcome to the MiSTer world if you decide to jump in!!

Awesome Device

I've been on the fence for several years and finally pulled the trigger on an Analog Pro kit after doing some extensive research.

The Mister emulates a staggering amount of devices. I haven't even begun to explore the various PC emulations and have only barely dove I to the Arcade cores (what is there is fantastic). The console cores alone way way justify the purchase. Saturn, PSX, and N64? Heck yes.

If you're worried about not having a CRT monitor, don't jump to conclusions... it looks fantastic on an HD display, particularly on OLED and HDR support. Far better than I had anticipated myself. It has convinced me that maybe I don't even need a CRT.

Now, it's not totally plug and play but if you have any experience with computers, it won't take much to pull up a guide and have it set up in maybe an hour tops. The most time will be spent running updates to pull everything you need. It isn't difficult, but the configuration file is important. Definitely work through it and try to understand the options. Once you do that, it's really quick to just turn it on and get into a game fast.

One other thing I'll say is that the power button on the Analog Pro board may require several pushes to trigger. I initially thought there was something up until read on the Analog Pro IO board product page that this is a know thing and it's experimental in how it's implemented.

Overall, if you're into even just a handful of 32/16/8 bit consoles, this thing is absolutely worth every single penny.
